Public holidays in Australia are set by each state and territory. A few, like Christmas Day and Good Friday, fall on the same day everywhere; others, like the King's Birthday and Labour Day, fall on different dates in each state. The national view counts only the holidays every state shares, so choose your state or territory for your real figure.
When a holiday falls on a weekend, most states add a substitute or additional weekday, and we count that weekday. Part-day holidays (such as Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve evenings in some states) aren't counted, and holidays that only apply to part of a state, like the Royal Queensland Show, are listed but not counted.
