How business days are calculated
We count every date from today to December 31, including both. Each date goes into exactly one bucket: a weekend day, a federal holiday that falls on a weekday, or a business day. That way no date is ever subtracted twice.
Working hours are simply business days × hours per day. Use the 8h selector above to match your contract.
Federal holidays rules
We use the 11 federal holidays observed by federal employees. A holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one on a Sunday on the Monday after.
State holidays and company-specific days off aren't included. Many private employers observe fewer holidays than the federal government.

Are federal holidays included in business days?
No. Any federal holiday that falls on a weekday is removed from the business days total. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday is already a weekend day, so it isn't subtracted again; where the rules give a substitute weekday, that weekday is removed instead.
Are Saturdays and Sundays business days?
No. The calculator uses a Monday–Friday working week for the US, so Saturdays and Sundays are counted as weekend days. If you work weekends or shifts, your own total will differ.
How are working hours calculated?
Working hours = business days × hours per day. At 8 hours a day that is 528 hours. Change the hours-per-day setting above to match your contract.
What holidays are counted in the United States?
The 11 federal holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. A holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before, and one on a Sunday the Monday after. State holidays are not included, and private employers may not observe every federal holiday.
Which date counts as "today"?
Today is the current date in the US (America/New_York time), not your device's date, so the figures change at local midnight there. Today is included in the count, but only as a business day if it is one.
