How working days are calculated
We count every date from today to 31 December, including both. Each date goes into exactly one bucket: a weekend day, a public holiday that falls on a weekday, or a working day. That way no date is ever subtracted twice.
Working hours are simply working days × hours per day. Use the 8h selector above to match your contract.
Public holidays rules
Italy has national public holidays set by law, including Easter Sunday (always a Sunday). From 2026, 4 October (St Francis of Assisi) is a national holiday again. Holidays that fall on a weekend are not moved.
Each town also has its own patron saint's day, such as 29 June in Rome or 7 December in Milan. These aren't included, so subtract one more working day if yours falls on a weekday.

Are public holidays included in working days?
No. Any public holiday that falls on a weekday is removed from the working days total. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday is already a weekend day, so it isn't subtracted again; where the rules give a substitute weekday, that weekday is removed instead.
Are Saturdays and Sundays working days?
No. The calculator uses a Monday–Friday working week for Italy, so Saturdays and Sundays are counted as weekend days. If you work weekends or shifts, your own total will differ.
How are working hours calculated?
Working hours = working days × hours per day. At 8 hours a day that is 544 hours. Change the hours-per-day setting above to match your contract.
Are local patron saint days included?
No. Each Italian town has its own patron saint's day (for example 24 June in Florence and Turin, 29 June in Rome, 7 December in Milan). If yours falls on a weekday, you have one fewer working day than shown.
Which date counts as "today"?
Today is the current date in Italy (Europe/Rome time), not your device's date, so the figures change at local midnight there. Today is included in the count, but only as a working day if it is one.
