We count every date from today to 31 December, including both. Each date goes into exactly one bucket: a weekend day, a bank holiday that falls on a weekday, or a working day. That way no date is ever subtracted twice.

Bank holidays rules
The UK has three bank holiday calendars. England & Wales usually have 8 a year. Scotland adds 2 January and St Andrew's Day but has no Easter Monday. Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne.
When a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a substitute day is given, usually the following Monday. We count the substitute day, not the weekend date. One-off bank holidays are included as soon as GOV.UK publishes them.

Are bank holidays included in working days?
No. Any bank holiday that falls on a weekday is removed from the working days total. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday is already a weekend day, so it isn't subtracted again; where the rules give a substitute weekday, that weekday is removed instead.
Are Saturdays and Sundays working days?
No. The calculator uses a Monday–Friday working week for the UK, so Saturdays and Sundays are counted as weekend days. If you work weekends or shifts, your own total will differ.
How are working hours calculated?
Working hours = working days × hours per day. At 8 hours a day that is 544 hours. Change the hours-per-day setting above to match your contract.
Does the UK have the same bank holidays everywhere?
No. England and Wales share one calendar, while Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own. Scotland has 2 January and St Andrew's Day (30 November) but no Easter Monday, and its summer bank holiday is in early August. Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne (12 July). Choose your region above for the right figures.
