How working days are calculated
We count every date from today to 31 December, including both. Each date goes into exactly one bucket: a weekend day, a public holiday that falls on a weekday, or a working day. That way no date is ever subtracted twice.
Working hours are simply working days × hours per day. Use the 8h selector above to match your contract.
Public holidays rules
Germany has nine nationwide public holidays. Every other holiday is set by the state (Bundesland), so choose your state for your real figure. Holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday are not moved to a weekday.
Assumption Day in mainly Catholic parts of Bavaria, Corpus Christi in parts of Saxony and Thuringia, and the Augsburg Peace Festival only apply locally, so they aren't included.

Frequently asked questions
How many working days are left this year in Bremen?
There are 69 working days left in 2026 in Bremen, counting from today (Friday, 25 September 2026) to 31 December inclusive. That is 98 days in total, minus 28 weekend days and 1 public holiday falling on weekdays.
Are public holidays included in working days?
No. Any public holiday that falls on a weekday is removed from the working days total. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday is already a weekend day, so it isn't subtracted again; where the rules give a substitute weekday, that weekday is removed instead.
Are Saturdays and Sundays working days?
No. The calculator uses a Monday–Friday working week for Germany, so Saturdays and Sundays are counted as weekend days. If you work weekends or shifts, your own total will differ.
How are working hours calculated?
Working hours = working days × hours per day. At 8 hours a day that is 552 hours. Change the hours-per-day setting above to match your contract.
Are public holidays the same in every German state?
No. Nine holidays apply nationwide, and each state adds its own, such as Epiphany, Corpus Christi, Reformation Day or All Saints' Day. Choose your state above for figures that match where you work. Holidays on a weekend aren't moved, so in some years a state loses a day off.
Which date counts as "today"?
Today is the current date in Bremen (Europe/Berlin time), not your device's date, so the figures change at local midnight there. Today is included in the count, but only as a working day if it is one.
